Fishing

  River and Loch fishing is well catered for in Galloway and Dumfriesshire. With massive amounts of open countryside, rolling hills, forests and mountains, there are lenty of rivers, streams and lochs to fish. Amongst the rivers fishable are; The Annan, Ae, Dee, Cree, Nith, Esk, Bladnoch, Urr, Water of Luce. Expect to catch Pike, Eel, Trout, Salmon, Perch, Carp, Rudd and Tench. Don't be afraid of tapping local knowledge for the best marks to fish either.


RIVER KEN - WEST BANK BELOW KEN BRIDGE - COARSE & TROUT FISHING

This stretch of river runs from the Ken Bridge on the cross road A713/A712 down stream and access is via the gate on New Galloway side of the bridge, go under the bridge and the river fishing stretch starts there. The river holds various sized wild brown trout for the game fisher and numerous pike and perch for the coarse angler.

Keith Snow is a full time professional fly fishing Instructor and Registered Guide.He is a National Instructor with the Salmon and Trout Association and is qualified in all three game fishing disciplines; Salmon, Trout and Fly Dressing. Annandale and Borders Fly Fishing has access to over thirty miles of the Annan and several other rivers in south west Scotland. All of the waters fished are private. BUITTLE RESERVOIR (TROUT FISHING)

This loch is just off of the A745 Castle Douglas to Dalbeattie road, turn left just before Buittle church and follow the road for about 2 miles until the signposts, and then it’s just a short walk to the loch and boathouse. Buittle loch is stocked with a good quality fish monthly and carries some large fish of both species giving you plenty of work when hooked.

DALSWINTON ESTATE
The Dalswinton Estate fishing’s are within the lower reaches of the river and are divided into 2 beats. The entire stretch offers good holding for late autumn salmon and early season sea trout. There are 23 named pools or flats and these provide for the full range of methods. The beats are well marked. Fishing huts are located next to each of the beats.

MOFFAT FISHERY
This unique Spring fed Troutmaster Fishery, with a 4.5 acre trout loch, is stocked with Rainbows from 2.5 pounds upwards, plus Moffat Monsters. Brown trout are also present. It is advisable to book your ticket in advance. Bait fishing for all the family. Coarse Fishing: Our 1.5 acre loch set in an island setting is stocked with carp, roach, rudd, bream and tench up to 8lb in weight.

Raygill Lakes
Situated in the beautiful village of Lothersdale, Raygill is home to the Clement Family who have owned and run Raygill as a family business since 1987. We are primarily a fishery, boasting 4 beautiful well-stocked lakes full of Trout, Coarse and Pike Fish. We are also a Troutmaster water. We are open every day from 8am to dusk. Also, we have the Wildlife & History Trail This is a lovely scenic walk back in time around the Quarry Lake and the Delf Lake. You will see some amazing views and lots of wonderful real life animals and birds who make Raygill their home.
